What is a Vendor Risk Report?

A Vendor Risk Report assesses your supplier portfolio for GST compliance health. It checks each supplier GSTIN against live GSTN data to flag inactive registrations, cancelled GSTINs, and non-filers — all of which can result in blocked ITC and tax demand notices for your business.

Under Section 16(2)(aa) and Rule 86A, ITC from non-compliant suppliers can be blocked or reversed, creating immediate cash flow impact and potential interest liability at 18–24% p.a.

ITC Risk from Non-Compliant Suppliers

  • Cancelled GSTIN — ITC completely blocked; recover tax from supplier
  • Suspended GSTIN — ITC at risk; avoid further transactions
  • Non-filer (GSTR-1 not filed) — Invoice won't appear in your GSTR-2B
  • Composition dealer — Cannot issue tax invoices; no ITC available
  • Mismatch in business type — Possible fake GSTIN or identity fraud

Risk Score Explained

🟢 Low Risk (75–100)
Active registration, regular filer, GSTIN verified. Safe to claim ITC. Continue transacting.
🟡 Medium Risk (50–74)
Active but with some compliance gaps. Verify GSTR-2B before claiming ITC. Consider advance payment terms.
🔴 High Risk (0–49)
Inactive, cancelled, or suspended GSTIN. Do not claim ITC. Issue debit note and recover GST amount from supplier.
⚪ Composition Dealer
Composition taxpayers cannot charge GST or issue tax invoices. Any ITC claimed from them is ineligible and will be reversed.

How to Use This Report for Vendor Due Diligence

✅ Run monthly — Supplier status changes dynamically. A supplier active today may be cancelled tomorrow.

✅ Before onboarding — Verify all new vendor GSTINs before processing the first invoice. Prevents ITC issues from day one.

✅ Before large payments — For high-value invoices, verify GSTIN status and check if the invoice appears in your GSTR-2B before releasing payment.

✅ Accounts payable integration — Share this report with your finance team. Block payments to high-risk vendors until compliance is restored.

✅ Annual audit prep — Run a full vendor base check before the financial year closes. Identify and reverse ineligible ITC before GSTR-9 filing.

✅ Legal protection — Document your due diligence checks. In case of department inquiry, vendor verification reports demonstrate good faith compliance.
